2. Working Principle

The operation of the CRF150F Motorcycle Magneto Coil is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. When the engine runs, the crankshaft drives the rotor magnet to rotate at high speed, forming a dynamic alternating magnetic field. The stator coil group cuts the magnetic field lines to generate alternating current, which is then distributed to the ignition, charging, and timing systems to realize the coordinated work of the motorcycle’s electrical components.

2.1 Ignition System Working Principle


Voltage Boost Principle: The ignition coil acts as a step-up transformer. It uses the primary coil turns ratio (usually ≥ 1:100) to induce the low-voltage AC output by the magneto into an instant high-voltage current of over 20,000V.

Ignition Control Process: The high-voltage current is transmitted to the CDI (capacitor discharge ignition) igniter, where it is stored by the energy storage capacitor and then triggered to release.

Combustion Guarantee: The igniter accurately controls the spark plug to generate strong ignition sparks at the end of the engine’s compression stroke, ensuring the full combustion of the fuel mixture and providing sufficient power for the motorcycle.


2.2 Charging & Power Supply System Working Principle


AC/DC Conversion: The AC waveform output by the charging coil is complex, and needs to be converted into direct current through a rectifier regulator. Modern rectifiers adopt full-wave bridge rectifier circuits, combined with filter capacitors and smoothing circuits.

Stable Voltage Output: The converted pulsating direct current is optimized into a stable 12V output, which can realize two core functions:

Provide constant-voltage and current-limiting charging for 12V lead-acid/lithium battery packs;

Supply continuous power for on-board electrical equipment such as headlights (35W-55W), taillights, and instrument backlights.


2.3 Ignition Timing System Working Principle


Signal Collection: The trigger coil acts as the "time controller" of the magneto. It senses the special protrusions or slots on the rotor, converting the magnetic flux change into electrical signals (realized through Hall sensors or electromagnetic induction principles).

Timing Control: After waveform shaping, the electrical signal accurately controls the trigger timing of the igniter. For the four-stroke engine of CRF150F, the trigger signal is usually sent when the crankshaft angle is 18°-22° before the piston reaches top dead center (BTDC). This timing ensures the optimal matching between ignition energy and piston movement, maximizing engine efficiency and power output.
